Things to Consider When Installing a Fence in Twin Falls, ID
There are a wider range of fencing materials than most clients realize. Most clients immediately think of cedar wood and chain link fencing. Other popular fencing types include vinyl, aluminum, and wrought iron. When narrowing down options, it’s a good idea to look at the functions you need your fence to fulfill. For instance, cedar wood and vinyl fencing make for fine privacy fences, while chain link fencing, aluminum, and wrought iron are excellent options for security.
Fences come with a massive price range. Chances are, asking your second cousin’s wife’s best friend about how much it cost to install her fence will not yield a very accurate answer for you. The main factors that contribute to the overall cost of a fence include:
Type of fence
Terrain
Length of fence
Height of fence
Perhaps the largest factor that influences the overall cost of a fence is the type of fence; different materials inherently cost more than others, and this quickly adds up as the length of the fence increases. Wrought iron fencing is significantly pricier than chain link fencing, for example, in part due to the production costs, but also due to the shipping cost, as wrought iron is much heavier than chain linking. The terrain can make a difference in labor costs due to how easy or difficult the terrain is to work with, and both the length and height of a fence contribute to how much material is used for a fence.
Fences require maintenance. The good news is, most fencing materials are used as fencing materials because they tend to require minimal maintenance. However, it’s important to remember that some maintenance is required, and some materials are much more durable over the long term than others. Although cedar wood fences are among the most popular, they require the most maintenance, as they should be stained every few years. Most fences last for decades; it’s a good idea to view your fence as an investment, and to be well-informed and prepared to put in the time to properly maintain whatever fence material you choose.
Never assume your property lines. Many clients think it’s pretty clear cut; they think they have a good idea on where exactly their property lines are, but it’s actually quite common for pre-existing fences to be just a touch off of the property line, or for there to be a few feet at the front of the property that belong to the city for future sidewalks. The problem with not being 100% sure of your property lines arise when new neighbors move in, or those sidewalks are being put in. The last thing anyone wants is to have to rip out a perfectly good fence over such a dispute, so always, always, always check where your property lines are!
