The Difference Between Decorative Aluminum and Wrought Iron Fencing

There are a lot of things to consider when making the choice between aluminum and wrought iron fencing materials. Both have a similar aesthetic, price point and durability factor. Both work well as security fences and gates and fencing for estates. However,  there are also several key differences that could help you choose which fencing material is best for your residential or commercial space.

Installation Requirements

The first point to consider is the levelness of the terrain you are wanting to install a fence on. Wrought iron fence panels tend to do better on flat terrain in Twin Falls, Idaho, as iron is a rigid fence material. This means that any incline or movement from the ground underneath could result in wrought iron fencing panels having to be replaced. On the other hand, aluminum fence materials are more lightweight and durable, making them idea to use in areas that are more sloping or uneven.

Maintenance Factors

While wrought iron fencing tends to be the longest-lasting fencing material, it also requires a lot of maintenance. Due to the nature of the material they will rust easily. A wrought iron fence should be professionally painted at least every 10 years. Aluminum fencing is virtually maintenance-free. You won’t have to worry about chipping, cracking or rusting with an aluminum fence.

Cost

Aluminum fencing is usually more expensive than the already costly wrought iron fence. But when considering the pros of aluminum fences, the extra cost seems little in comparison to the money and time you would have to spend on upkeep and maintenance. Either way, the cost of both of these fence types is worth it if you are looking for a durable and long-lasting fencing material.

Besides being a great choice for decorative fencing for historic districts, wrought iron fencing is a great choice for areas that will get a lot of wear and tear or needs to hold up as a high security fence.
