Unique Privacy Fence Ideas in Twin Falls, ID

Perhaps the most satisfying part of being a homeowner is that you have the opportunity to make your property uniquely yours. Whether you live in a custom build or a neighborhood with many homes with the same floor plan, homeownership means you get to add your own unique flare to everything from interior design to paint color to landscaping and FENCING. The team of experts at Certified Fencing are excited to help our clients install their dream fence through our fencing services. Privacy fencing is among the most popular options selected by our residential clients; today, we’ll be discussing some fun and unique ideas for privacy fencing that we’d love to see more of here in Twin Falls, ID.

Install your cedar wood fence in a shadow box pattern.

The typical go-to for cedar wood fences is to install the slats in one plane, where each of the slats are attached on the same side of the rails. A shadow box pattern is where the slats are alternated on different sides of the rail, creating a three-dimensional effect. This is perhaps the most traditional of our suggestions, but is perfect for clients who want to put a subtle twist on a standard fencing option. Shadow box fences do have slight gaps between the slats, however, so this is something to keep in mind if full privacy is a priority.

Grow a hedge to create a barrier.

There’s a reason that using a hedge for fencing has been popular for centuries. Hedges are very classic, provide excellent privacy, and add an organic touch to the typically lifeless fence. We’re very enthusiastic about non-traditional fencing options, and are a huge fan of hedges. However, if you are considering installing a hedge, bear in mind that they do require time and effort to maintain. Hedges must be watered and trimmed, and they do take a few years to become full enough to afford full privacy. Additionally, hedges take up more space than a traditional fence, so understanding the amount of space your hedge will take up may play a role in your decision.

Grow an ivy curtain over a structure.

If you’ve hopped on the boho trend of crowding your home with plants and organic materials and have the green thumb to do it, this unique idea is sure to add a taste of your personality to your yard. Ivy can be trained over a chain link fence or a trellis with some tender loving care and patience. Much like hedges, ivy can take a few years to afford full privacy, but presents a unique and beautiful element in a space that could otherwise be bland.

Install a gabion wall.

Although typically not considered a fence, if you are looking to add a unique flare to your property, the gabion wall is an excellent choice! The word gabion comes from the Italian word for “large cage.” A gabion wall is typically a wire structure in the shape of an elongated box or wall filled with rocks, concrete, or other materials. While somewhat uncommon to use for fencing, a gabion wall can be an excellent touch that maintains privacy while being an eye-catching accent. While encircling your entire yard in a gabion wall is certainly an option, we love the idea of mixing and matching--much like an accent wall in a bedroom, replacing one section of your fencing with a gabion wall could be a very chic and modern twist to traditional fencing. Pairing a gabion wall with a cedar fence with slats in a horizontal orientation would be an elegant and refreshing idea for a modern fence.

Privacy fencing is the most popular fencing style among our residential fencing clients, and with good reason: you should be just as comfortable in your yard as you are in your home.
