Preventing Trespassers with Commercial Fencing in Twin Falls, ID
Preventing trespassing on your commercial property because there is potential for criminal activity on your property, including theft or damage to property by these trespassers. Additionally, it’s crucial to be aware of any attractive nuisances that may attract unwanted visitors.
Attractive nuisances are features on your property that may attract trespassers--often children or teenagers--who may be at risk of injury from these attractions. These often include common safety hazards such as water features like ponds, pools, or fountains, sports fields and equipment, sand or gravel pits, tunnels, animals, cars and other old appliances, and more. Property owners can be held liable for negligence if proper precautions aren’t taken to prevent such trespassers. Therefore, installing fencing to your commercial property is an important measure to prevent injuries and protect your business.
Fence Height
Adding just an extra foot or two in height to your commercial fence can cut down on the number of potential trespassers capable of scaling your fence. Standard fence height is six feet high. Installing a fence at seven or eight feet can markedly increase security. Especially if the nature of your commercial property necessitates increased security, the extra materials cost is well worth the added assurance. Additionally, height can be added with toppers on your fence that lean outward at an angle. Adding a angle at the top of your fence makes it significantly harder to climb, and can go a long way to discourage unauthorized entry onto your property.
Anti-Climb Spikes
Perhaps the most subtle option, anti-climb spikes are typically made of metal and welded or bolted to the top of walls or fences to prevent trespassers from having easy handholds if they attempt to scale the fence. Depending on the materials you choose, anti-climb spikes can be disguised as part of the design of the fence itself; for example, aluminum or wrought iron fencing can have anti-climb spikes built into the top of each post. Anti-climb spikes take up far less space than barbed wire or an angled portion along the top of your fence, and are often much less obvious than the other deterrents, which makes them the most frequently utilized trespasser prevention method as they are used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Barbed Wire
A popular option among properties that require tiger security where aesthetic appeal isn’t a high priority, barbed wire and razor wire are the paragon of trespasser prevention. Barbed wire has sharp ends of wires--called barbs--sticking out of it, making it a deadly and intimidating barrier. Razor wire has a similar concept, but has sharp, thin blades of metal embedded in the wire at intervals. Both of these options can be used to top fences and ward off would-be trespassers; because of its threatening appearance, the majority of casual trespassers will be swayed by this option. Most teenagers wouldn’t even attempt to scale a chain link fence topped with barbed wire, and it would take a pretty determined trespasser to even consider making the attempt. On the flip side, both barbed wire and razor wire are not attractive options and do not invoke an impression of friendliness, so you may want to consider whether it’s an appropriate option for your commercial property.
